Extensive study on depression and HIV

An increasing number of studies shows interesting links between HIV and depression. Among these, it is worth to mention a 10-year analysis (2005-2015) on 6,000 patients with HIV, with an average age of 44, which has demonstrated that risk of death doubled for the pool of individuals who suffered from depression as well. The study has been performed exclusively in the US, where 1.1m people have HIV and an estimated 20-40% of them suffers from depression. Depression, among its most serious consequences, prevents patients from taking drugs or follow protocols, which clearly accelerates HIV progression.
