GSK to appoint former AstraZeneca executive as head of Pharmaceuticals division

GlaxoSmithKline announced today that Abbas Hussain, President of the Global Pharmaceuticals division, will leave the group by the end of 2017 and will be replaced by Luke Miels, currently responsible for AstraZeneca’s European business The division Miels will head generates at present approximately £15bn and operates in over 100 markets worldwide. Miels holds a degree in biology from Flinders University in Adelaide and an MBA from Macquarie University, Sydney. He began his career in 1995 as Sales Representative with AstraZeneca in Australia. During his career he also worked for Roche as Regional Vice President Asia Pacific for the Pharmaceuticals Division and for Sanofi-Aventis (Asia and the US). Miels will be directly responsible to Emma Walmsley, who will become GSK CEO in April, replacing veteran Andrew Witty. (Source GSK)
