Ian Read to leave as Pfizer CEO at the end of the year, replaced by Greek manager Albert Bourla

Shocking news for the pharma world: veteran Ian Read, Pfizer CEO and chairman for eight years, is stepping down at the end of the year.  He is being replaced by Albert Bourla, current Pfizer COO. Before serving his current office, Bourla used to be head of Pfizer’s Global Vaccines, Oncology and Consumer Healthcare unit. He had previously been GM of the Established Products unit. Albert, from Greece, joined Pfizer in 1993 as Technical Director in Greece, after a master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, and a PhD in Reproductive Biotechnologies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
