Merck KGaA’s Marcus Kuhnert named CFO of the month

The German economic and financial daily Handelsblatt published today a long article about Marcus Kuhnert, Merck KGaA’s CFO since 2014, naming him CFO of the month. Marcus Kuhnert, 49, born in Chicago, but grown up north of Frankfurt, has a PhD in engineering from TU Darmstadt. His professional career started in Henkel, where he served first as a controller, then as head of Investors-Relations. He moved to Merck in 2014, where his first significant task was negotiating the lines of credit for the $17bn acquisition of US-based Sigma Aldrich. Kunhert is currently dealing with the dismissal of Merck’s Consumer Healthcare business, which generates over €900m, and is busy finding a solution to the Performance Materials (liquid crystals) division steadily losing revenues, due to changes in the consumer electronics market.
