SGL carbon to sell a US plant to Mitsubishi Rayon

Mitsubishi Rayon has acquired Evanston, Wyoming-based SGL Carbon Fibers LLC, owned by SGL group (Wiesbaden). The parties have not provided the financial details of the transaction, however the Japanese press (Nihon Keizai Shimbun) believes Mitsubishi to have paid tens of millions of dollars. The acquisition allows Mitsubishi Rayon to strengthen its market position in the US, where it has been operating since 2011 with a 10kmT production capacity. GL Group will continue operating the carbon fiber production plants in Moses Lake (USA)—in joint-venture with BMW—and Muir of Ord (UK).
