Takeda Pharmaceuticals yesterday evening announced it plans to close down its Deerfield (Chicago) headquarters, cutting 1,000 jobs. The announcement came as no surprise to analysts, who were expecting a radical cost cut after the $62bn acquisition of Shire. Soon after the announcement, Takeda informed that it would cut at least 7% of its workforce due to the Shire deal.
Takeda had already relocated some key positions from Deerfield to Boston HQ. In addition to the Boston HQ, Takeda in the US has a R&D center in San Diego, a production site in Minnesota and an administration site in Washington, D.C.
