Verb Surgical, Google’s latest gamble in healthcare

Verb Surgical is a young California-based startup established in 2015, which has recently attracted media as it has raised $500m in funding, its two main funders being Alphabet (Google) and Johnson & Johnson. Verb develops surgical robots costing up to $2m each, its products are still undergoing development and none of them is currently on the market. Surgical robotics business is dramatically expanding and will reach $12bn before 2025. Verb plans to lead it together with Medtronic and JnJ. Verb currently has 200 employees, plus 50 developers and engineers brought in from Google.
